It is always a common picture in a family that parents are working and that trying to make some time with their kids. But they have quality time with each other. It is also important for couples to have a daily routine to spend time together. Spending time together opens the communication with your spouse or partner. Good practice would be you have time to eat together or have an activity that both of you enjoy.

Saving Tips

It’s time to prepare for Christmas. Make sure you make a list for the food/meal you want to prepare for the holiday so that you won’t buy unnecessary things. May be if you have extra money you can buy ahead of time rather than last minute buying. Just make sure you check for the expiratory dates and do not bring your children. There are alternative foods that you can prepare instead of pasta you can cook pancit, cake to local kakanin, or instead of chicken macaroni salad you can serve buko salad.’’

I just received an email from my sister. This weekend the whole family will be going to a new resort in Bukidnon. Oh! They are so excited. It’s been three weekends now that they’ve been having adventure on resorts just enjoying the view and the amenities like swimming pool, cable car, horse back riding, and a lot more. I wish they will send me some pictures.

Growing Old

by admin | October 10, 2008 | In Personal No Comments

Recently, I begin to understand that growing old is not easy. I can only imagine the frustration when you can no longer do what you used to easily do. With age comes deterioration of the body, mental processes and other functions. This is generally accepted. This made me realize that taking care of my body, while I am still young, is important. Being healthy now may not guarantee my continued health in old age, but it does increase my chances. And keeping in good health is necessary.

It almost the end of the session, the end of the semester, practically the end of the school year, and I still had a lot of deadlines to meet. Requirements flooded my notebook, and it rained tests and exams. Wonderful.

I worked hard, I toiled. No, make that… burdened. Seemed like I could never take this drudgery. But without complaint, I studied, worked, and finished my tasks as a student. Before I realized it, the school year was over. And everything just passed away.

And then it hit me. Wow, I survived!

Acupuncture

I’m one of the many people who are allergic to needles. So obviously, I really don’t believe in the healing that acupuncture brings. But some of my friends, who are brave enough to try acupuncture, says that its effective. They say it’s a rehab at the tip of the needle. According to the Chinese, acupuncture seeks to restore the balance of our chi by stimulating points along the meridian with needles. The belief about the chi is I think the reason why Chinese stick to acupuncture rather than scientific medications.

What a Day in Manila

I can’t remember the exact circumstance I was in but I do know I was seething mad at the driver of the service shuttle I had just gotten off from. He deviated from the usual route the shuttles took so that some of the passengers, myself included, had to get out and walk some distance. Walking wasn’t so bad except that I was already running late and lugging around a heavy bag in my heels.

With every step I took, I was getting more and more angry until I realized nothing good would come out of it. Still mad, and still walking on the uneven pavement, I forced myself to calm down. It wasn’t easy but I was glad I overcome the anger.

Lunchbox

by admin | September 1, 2008 | In Personal No Comments

Everyday I long what my mom prepares for me as my baon (packed food). Usually, my friends and I gather in one table and get to share our food with each other. My mom regularly prepares sandwiches (hotdog or ham), with cold chocolate drink, biscuits, and fruits. Do you still remember the design and color of your lunchbox?

Reupholstering

by admin | August 1, 2008 | In Personal No Comments

When we moved into our home 5 years ago, we discovered that the former owner had left us six dining room chairs. They were covered with fabric of beautiful African art—tasteful zebra stripes. We appreciated the unexpected gifts and used them frequently when entertaining guests.

When we recently moved again, those chairs needed a makeover to match our new décor. So I called an upholsterer and asked, “Shouldn’t we just put the new material over the existing fabric?” He responded, “No, you’ll ruin the shape of the chair if you just put new material over the old.”
